Prof. Evelyn M. Ben and Mrs. Aileen G. De Guzman participated in the International Seminar on Biotechnology with the theme “Harnessing the Potential of Biological Resources” sponsored by the Institute of Graduate Studies, Central Luzon State University held at the Hotel Supreme, Baguio City on August 9-11, 2006.
With other participants from different schools in the Philippines and foreign students from CLSU, the two faculty from the University Science High School attended lectures on Bacterial Cellulose: Not Just Nata de Coco by Dr. Gary Dykes from the University of Queensland, Australia; Polysaccharides and Fermentation by Prof. Tanuwat and Dr. Kongruang from the King Munkot Institute of Technology, Bangkok Campus; Biotechnology Product Development and Bio-safety Regulation in the Philippines by Linda M. Peñalba from the University of the Philippines, Los Baños; Cloning and Animal Biotechnology by Dr. Giorgio S. Presiece from Centro Regionale per la Zootecnia, Rome, Italy; Fungal Glucans: Isolation, Characterization and Application by Dr. Undo Rau from the University of Braunschweig, Germany; Hybrid Rice Technology by Dr. Cheng Liangji, co-director of PHIL-SINO Center for Agricultural Tecnology, Science City of Muñoz.
“I will share the knowledge that I have gained in the seminar to the USHS students,” said Prof. Ben.
One of the highlights of the seminar was the presentation of different research papers wherein the best one was awarded with a certificate and cash prize.
