The University Science High School team climbed to second place, two steps higher from its last year’s rank, in the 8th Zonal Chemistry Quiz, which was sponsored by the CLSU Chemical Society (CLSU-ChemSoc), on February 16, 2006 at the CLSU Auditorium.

The match was made up of two parts: the elimination and the final rounds. With 22 other schools at the start, Markville B. Bautista, Faye Victoria C. Casimero and Homer V. Lindain answered 20 questions worth five points each. At the end of the round, the USHS group placed fourth and was included in the ten teams which advanced to the last round. Bulacan State University, last year’s champion, failed to reach the finals.

With the scores going back to zero, this stage consisted of 15 questions. USHS led the early portion of the quiz ahead of Baguio City National High School by a slim margin. However, they missed the last 5-point question, thereby allowing the latter to overtake them for the win. St. Mary’s University- Baliuag notched the third spot.
The team was coached by Mrs. Aileen G. de Guzman.
