The University Science High School emerged as overall champion in the Division Secondary Schools Press Conference ’09 held at the Regional Science Teaching Center, CLSU, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, October 20.
Out of the 14 student-writers of USHS, 11 bagged the 1st place and they were: Martinne Cielo B. Elesango (Editorial Writing), Anne Geline V. Cayme (News Writing), Ella Joy dF. Avellanoza (Pagsulat ng Balita), Gamaliel J. Domingo (Paglikha ng Kartung Editoryal), Nomer Ivan Jethro A. Gaboy (Feature Writing), Joseph Israel N.Queros (Pagsulat ng Lathalain), Justine Hiro D. Barot (Copyreading and Headline Writing), Benedict Z. Castro (Sports Writing), Michael S. Sayco (Pagsulat ng Balitang Isports), Harold M. Chua (Photojournalism) and Raisa M. Tumbocon (Pagkuha ng Larawang Pampahayagan).
Felicia Anne I. Bulanan ranked 3rd in Pagsulat ng Pangulong Tudling while Don Christian C. Abao and Bea Cheyenne S. Belonio placed 4th in Editorial Cartooning and Pagwawasto at Pag-uulo ng Balita respectively.
“Our victory was really unexpected but we’re happy to regain the title,” Castro said.
Speakers and judges in the different categories were Prof. Ben G. Domingo Jr. in News Writing, Pagsulat ng Balita, Sports Writing and Pagsulat ng Balitang Isports; Dr. Regidor G. Gaboy in Editorial Cartooning, Paglikha ng Kartung Pangeditoryal, Photojournalism and Pagkuha ng Larawang Pampahayagan; Prof. Fely Rose V. Manaois in Feature Writing, Pagsulat ng Lathalain, Copyreading and Headline Writing and Pagwawasto at Pag-uulo ng Balita; and Prof. Mercedes H. Blancas in Editorial Writing and Pagsulat ng Pangulong Tudling.
This year’s participating schools were Muñoz National High School (Main Campus), Muñoz National High School (Annex), University Laboratory High School-Palusapis, Agricultural Science and Technology School, San Sebastian School and Science City Montessori School.
Dr. Esperanza L. Laya, schools division superintendent, Science City of Muñoz Division also graced the said competition.
Dr. Rhodora I. Dela Rosa, dean, College of Education and Dr. Remedios Z. Panuyas, USHS assistant principal, challenged all the contestants to give honors to their respective schools.
“Ang DSSPC ay isang natatanging pagsasanay sa mga natatanging mag-aaral,” said Prof. Julie C. Domingo, adviser of the The Researcher.
Following USHS on the lead were San Sebastian School and Muñoz National High School (Main) as 1st and 2nd runners-up respectively.
